Better image of Golf Club path changes

I have managed to acquire a better version of the changes that Long Ashton Golf Club is proposing to make to the footpaths that cross the fairways:

Golf Club path changes

The routes that would be removed/diverted are in orange, to be replaced with those in green.

If you have any feedback, do send it to the Golf Club asap so that they can take account of it please. You can just about pick out the existing routes on Google maps:

I am personally very much opposed to the proposed changes, and prefer to walk in open spaces than be confined to the woodland edges the proposal shows. I can see the attraction of the benefits as far as the Golf Club is concerned, but I believe the safety issue is a minor consideration in all this; indeed something of a “red herring”- walkers and golfers have been sharing these spaces for a long time. I imagine the Public Footpaths have been in place much longer than the Club, and that quite possibly preservation of these footpaths was a precondition of the establishment of the Club. I very much hope the Parish Council is opposing the proposals.

Thanks Tony. Please do send your comments directly to the Golf Club too, so that they can judge the local mood.

The Parish Council hasn’t had a vote on the issue since there aren’t any specific proposals yet, but we have been working with the club to see if we can help them to produce a workable suggestion. There is an opportunity to see extra footpaths created, in addition to the diversions, which may prove to be a palatable trade-off.

The health and safety concern is genuine, and I have heard from people who have had some very near misses despite being careful. I think that the council is obliged to look carefully at supporting a safer alternative, if possible.
