Long Ashton resident Bill Roberts is kindly organising a community drive to raise enough money to buy Keeds Woods. Here is the announcement that he has put out:
Keeds Wood and The Brake, at the top of Keeds Lane in Long Ashton, are for sale with an offer having been received of around £100,000.
See www.johnclegg.co.uk for full details.
There’s been a massive response in the village of people wanting to be part of buying it to use as a Community Woodland, for leisure, education, conservation, timber, community events, etc…….
In response to several emails from villagers requesting she holds off on the sale to give time to fully prepare a community bid, the owner has told the agent that the sale will go ahead immediately after the closing date of this Friday, 2nd December.
So we have 4 days to raise £100,000! We don’t need the cash on Friday, we need pledges in writing (including email) to buy shares in units of £500, either as a donation or towards joint ownership of the woods.
I already know of one person offering £10,000, another offering £5,000, a couple wanting to buy shares for themselves and each of their 3 children (i.e. £2,500), and another couple offering £1,000.
Pledges should be emailed to email@example.com, or delivered by hand to 2 Heath Ridge, Long Ashton, BS41 9EW, by midday Friday (don’t rely on the post getting in time). Please include your full name, address and phone number so I can draw up an official list.
